Gait analysis

Gait analysis, or running style assessment, is the key service we provide free to all our customers when buying their running shoes.
Running shoes are specifically designed to address a vast variety of foot shapes, weight differences, and biomechanical anomalies. It is difficult to know which shoe will work best for you - this is where our expert consultants come in.
The first step to being correctly fitted for running shoes is to have your gait analysed. At Runners Need, we will assess your gait and foot strike as you test different shoes on a treadmill. Video feedback will let you see what we see and show you how different shoes will work for you.
We have now introduced Dartfish, the computer gait analysis system to all of our shops.
Dartfish is a very sophisticated piece of software that is used in many sporting activities for assessment of biomechanics, style and skills, in order to improve performance.
Dartfish's unique technologies allows us to assess your running style to fit you to the most suitable footwear.
A video is formed of you running for a short period on a treadmill, and then a slow motion detailed analysis is performed by the Runners Need consultant to show, and explain to you, your biomechanics.
From here, running shoes can be recommended in order to make your running style as efficient as possible and help reduce the risk of injury.

We can show you the difference in biomechanical efficiency when running in more corrective footwear, with 'before and after' videos playing side by side on the computer screen.
Multiple videos can be recorded to compare your running biomechanics in different footwear. The video playback will show you what type of runner you are: you could be an overpronator, a neutral runner or a supinator.
But whatever you are - there will be the ideal shoe for you.
