How long have you worked at Runners Need?
4 months
Tell us about yourself:
"I enjoy keeping fit and various activities including gym, volleyball, table tennis, squash and of course, above all..... running! I love taking every oppurtunity to lace up my shoes and get outside. Although not as competative as I used to be I still run regularly- always looking for new routes, both road and trail: A great way to stay fit, bust stress and explore!
Outdoor activities are also a passion of mine and I enjoy walking, camping and sea kayaking along the south coast.
I love music, both listening to and playing, and am a keen drummer. Having been playing for many years I have played in numerous bands and spend alot of my spare time practising, gigging and recording.
Alongside my role here at Port Solent, I work as a retained firefighter- another great way to keep in shape and gain some unique, exciting and rewarding experiences and skills."
What are your favourite shoes to run in and why?
"Mizuno Wave Inspire / Alchemy: I love these Shoes! They offer me the stablity I need as an overpronator and bigger runner, but remain really light and responsive- and still cushioned and comfortable- Mizuno do some funky colours too!!
Brooks Pure Cadence: Fairly new to 'minimalist' running, these have been the best shoes. They feel supportive while allowing great connection with the ground, suitable for heel or forefoot striking, really comfortable and look awesome. My Cadence are my go to shoe for shorter runs.
Adidas Kanadia 4 GTX: Having wider feet, I'm not normally at home in Adidas shoes but these trailers have seen me through countless trail runs, a tough mudder and a mucky races event and remain grippy, comfy, waterproof and secure."
How often do you go running?
I aim for 2 / 3 outings per week of between 3 and 10 miles.
Tell me about any challenges/marathons/races or similar you've taken part in
Now I run more for fitness and to relax, but back in more competative days I took part in various organised races. Bupa great south run, Stubbington 10K, Gosport 1/2 marathon, Mucky Races guts n' glory in Essex and my one and only marathon to date.
What's your favourite music to run to?
Not my favourite genre, but I find hiphop / rap munches up the miles!?- 50 cent is my long distance friend!
Are you taking part in any events this year?
I'm more about setting my own challenges and routes these days but will be entering the Bupa Great South and Victory 10K Portsmouth again this year and hope to try a south coast half that I haven't done before- Maybe the New Forest or Isle of Wight.

Customer Testimonials

"I am emailing as I feel compelled to inform you of the exceptional customer service that myself and my girlfriend recently received from Miss Georgina Gair at the Port Solent Runners Need store.

My partner and I are keen runners and a few weeks ago, Catherine was training for an African Ultra marathon. We visited our local 'runners need' and were served by Miss Gair. From the outset, she proved extremely knowledgable regarding all of the products we were interested in, went out of her way to ensure that any items that were out of stock were ordered in time for the Race and offered some superb advice that meant that Catherine completed her race (141 miles across the African desert) in considerably more comfortable than she otherwise would have been.

We have since returned to runners need and have been met with the same outstanding level of customer service from Miss Gair on each occasion.

I would be very grateful if you could pass on our sincere thanks to Miss Gair and congratulate her on being able to convey her obvious professional knowledge and enthusiasm onto her customers. This is an uncommon skill and Miss Gair possesses it in abundance."
