We’re in business to save our home planet

During its last 50 years in business, Patagonia has sought to challenge the accepted model of capitalism by demonstrating that doing the right thing for people and planet makes for good and profitable business. Today Patagonia’s commitment to our home planet holds strong, as it seeks to pioneer solutions to the footprint of the apparel industry, and advocate for the role of business in holding governments to account in this time of environmental crisis.

Capilene® is Patagonia's family of technical, moisture-wicking base layers made from recycled polyester, designed to keep you dry and comfortable. The best one for your run depends on the conditions:

  • Capilene® Cool Daily: The most versatile option, ideal for cool to hot weather. It's soft, wicks moisture, and has HeiQ® Pure odour control, making it perfect for everyday training.
  • Capilene® Midweight: Best for cool to cold conditions, this layer provides extra warmth while remaining highly breathable. Its diamond-grid pattern helps trap heat and manage moisture during strenuous runs.
  • Capilene® Thermal Weight: The warmest Capilene® fabric, designed for running in the deep cold. It has a soft, brushed-grid backing that provides excellent insulation and breathability.

H₂No® is Patagonia's own rigorous benchmark for ensuring a garment is waterproof, breathable, and durable over the long term. Jackets built to this standard, like the Storm Racer, undergo severe testing. The 3-layer shells typically feature a moisture-wicking inner lining, a waterproof/breathable membrane, and a durable outer shell made from recycled materials, offering complete protection you can rely on deep in the mountains.

Patagonia is a leader in using recycled materials, with over 87% of their entire line made from preferred materials like recycled content. For runners, this shows up in:

  • Recycled Polyester: Used extensively in Capilene® base layers, shorts, and tights.
  • Recycled Nylon: This is made from post-industrial and post-consumer waste. A key source is NetPlus®, which is made from 100% recycled fishing nets and is used to create durable jacket shells and other components

Many of Patagonia's running tops and hats offer a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating. This is achieved through the use of specific fibres, a dense fabric construction, and special treatments. This built-in sun protection is crucial for long days on exposed trails, helping to shield your skin from harmful UV radiation.

A great combination for cold runs is a Capilene® Midweight base layer to manage sweat, topped with an R1® Air Fleece for warmth. If it's windy or wet, add a shell jacket like the Houdini or the waterproof Storm Racer on top.
